Extensive four-laning of the Trans-Canada Highway was not included in a $255-million provincial highway package announced in late July by the Ernie Eves government.

Northern Development and Mines Minister Jim Wilson's announcement in

Timmins and Sioux Lookout included no money to add extra lanes to the highway. The bulk of the money will be spent on rehabilitation or improvements to existing roads and bridges.

Some four-laning projects will be done near Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay and Highway 69 near Parry Sound.

Politicians in Sudbury, the northwest and the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce are upset over the lack of plans for four-laning and passing lanes.
