The former Bomarc missle site in North Bay could be the future home of a high-tech plant. Sigamond, a Scottish firm, is scoping the site which is scheduled to be vacated next year by Canadore College's aviation school. The company uses advanced technologies in the area of explosive bonding, hydrogen fuel cells, and plasma-based titanium coating. Bunkers and gravel pits at the site are ideal locations for their processes, which include fusing titanium to other metals. Golf clubs are among the final products of this process. Canadore will move into a new building at Jack Garland Airport in the summer of 2002.
