First Nations focus on forestry, mining exploration development (08/01)

The new Northern Boreal Initiative (NBI), a consortium of six First Nations communities, is turning to the province for economic development, employment and tourism.

The new Northern Boreal Initiative (NBI), a consortium of six First Nations communities, is turning to the province for economic development, employment and tourism. The NBI, comprised of Moose Cree, Constance Lake, Cat Lake, Pikangikum, Slate Falls and Eabametoong, approached the Ministry of Natural Resources about bringing forestry activities to their communities. The initiative would involve installation of roads, power and mining exploration.
