The Serpent River First Nation wants a greater say in proposed hydroelectric developments near their community on the North Channel of Lake Huron.
The First Nation said a public notice on the development of a water power site at Four Slide Falls and McCarthy Chutes, and the process for input, was "unacceptable."
The band and Chief Isadore Day said the public notice should not be construed as the government making good on its duty to consult with First Nation about development on their traditional lands. Day calls the government's approach to effective co-ordinate five ministries to deal with development as "fragmented."
