A new all-season road will be built into the Lac Seul First Nation.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund is providing $983,000 to build a nine-kilometre stretch to two communities to help stimulate economic development in forestry, mining and tourism.
The First Nation is located 38 kilometres northwest of Sioux Lookout in northwestern Ontario.
The road will provide year-round access to the communities of Whitefish Bay and Kejick Bay which are accessible only by boat in summer and winter road. During the shoulder seasons, the communities are cut off for a two-week period.
"Lac Seul has made it clear that better access to the community will result in a meaningful improvement to the quality of life in their community," said Ontario Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant.
