With a federal election looming on the horizon, FedNor has managed to slip in a few last funding announcements, including a recent $2 million investment in Laurentian University's new Living With Lakes Centre.

To be located on the shores of Lake Ramsey, the estimated $12 million facility will help accommodate many of Laurentian's aquatic research and educational programs, such as the doctorate in boreal ecology. It will also feature a public outreach component.

The project will be the new home to Laurentian's Co-operative Freshwater Ecology Unit, an internationally renowned research and monitoring group studying human impacts on lakes, streams and wetlands. It also studies the effects of restoration on Northern environments.

Sudbury is home to one of the largest concentration of freshwater lakes in the world.
