Broadband internet access is expanding across Northern Ontario.
Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews announced three projects in Ontario that have received conditional approval for funding through Broadband Canada's Connecting Rural Canadians Program. Two of those projects are in Northern Ontario.
North Bay's Spectrum Telecom Group, Thunder Bay's TBayTel and Galaxy Broadband Communications of Mississauga have been approved for funding. Project dollar amounts were not released, but it is part of a larger $5.5-million investment.
The project funding will deliver broadband service to 2,562 households in the Nipissing, Markstay, Bonfield and Cochrane areas of northeastern Ontario, and the Oliver-Paipoonge, Fort William and Shuniah Township area of northwestern Ontario.
