The federal government is providing the City of Elliot Lake with $53,500 to create an economic development and diversification strategy.
“Our government is proud to make this targeted investment to help strengthen the economic outlook for the City of Elliot Lake,” FedNor Minister Tony Clement said in a news release. “Today’s announcement will enable the municipality to identify and capitalize on immediate and future economic opportunities, helping to create jobs and build a strong, sustainable local economy.”
With the funds, Elliot Lake will hire a consulting firm to conduct research, along with public and business consultations, to develop the strategy. The research will create an “economic road map” to help ready the community for long-term growth and prosperity, according to the release.
“On behalf of the citizens and businesses of Elliot Lake, I welcome and appreciate this strong show of support from the Government of Canada and FedNor,” Elliot Lake Mayor Rick Hamilton said. “This important investment will provide us with the necessary resources to develop and implement a strategic plan that will help strengthen the economic health of our community.”
Funding was provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program.
