FedNor pumps up small business programming

Federal attorney general Rob Nicholson dropped in on Kenora to deliver a $300,000 cheque to the Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation (LOWBIC).

Federal attorney general Rob Nicholson dropped in on Kenora to deliver a $300,000 cheque to the Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation (LOWBIC).

LOWBIC is one of the 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) in Northern Ontario funded by FedNor.

These organizations provide business counselling services and access to capital for small and medium-sized companies and entrepreneurs.

The visit was topped off with an additional $157,500 to help LOWBIC coordinate training and networking opportunities with the nine other CFDCs in northwestern Ontario.

"By ensuring that small and medium-sized enterprises have access to the tools they need to grow and prosper, we are helping create a strong and diversified economy,” said Nicholson in a July 24 statement.

"Working with community partners, such as the Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation, is delivering positive economic results, one small business at a time,” said Kenora MP Greg Rickford.
