Avariety of Sudbury-based businesses and projects are hoping to shake the winter blues with a few fistfuls of cash from FedNor.
The biggest recipient of this windfall is the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute, which found itself with $380,000 to develop a new research program. Known as SNO+, this project will explore the fields of particle physics, astrophysics, and geophysics.
FedNor also provided $265,000 to a series of organizations and businesses through its youth internship program. Examples of local firms receiving this funding include Accutron Instruments Inc., Bestech and NCS Technology.
The Downtown Village Development Corporation also saw some cash, with $80,000 provided to develop and implement a business development and attraction program for downtown Sudbury.
The Owen Sound-based Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium received $74,000 to hire a field service advisor to support Northern Ontario manufacturers.
