Cellular phone service is still unavailable between Thunder Bay and Wawa, but there is funding available to look at the possibility of service between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie.

FedNor has recently granted $52,250 in funding to the Superior East Community Development Corp. (SECDC) to investigate the feasibility of cellular phone service for the Wawa region.

Cellular service for the communities between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie does not exist; the SECDC will study the feasibility of bringing cellular service to the Chapleau-to-Wawa corridor and the Sault Ste. Marie-to-Wawa highway corridor.

FedNor funding will cover the costs associated with hiring an engineering technical consultant to complete a feasibility study that will determine whether or not a business plan should be developed and submitted to the Ontario Heritage Fund Corp.
