Forest-products giant Tembec and the New Post First Nations (near Cochrane) signed a long-term forest agreement in late August concerning environmental issues protecting areas of harvesting. The agreement allows both parties to make adjustments every five years as needed, along with quarterly meetings to discuss issues that crop up. Under the agreement, about 300,000 cubic metres of wood can be harvested annually, about $12 million worth of fibre. Opportunities concerning ecotourism and protection of wildlife and woodlands were also addressed in the agreement.
