Thunder Bay employers are expecting a slow summer, according to a recent employment outlook survey released by Manpower Inc.

The workforce management firm reports just 13 per cent of Thunder Bay employers plan to add workers to their payrolls this summer, while seven per cent plan to cut jobs. The remaining 30 per cent anticipate no change.

Prospects were brighter last summer when 23 per cent of employers foresaw adding personnel and three per cent envisioned cutbacks, a Manpower spokesperson says. Employers were more optimistic three months ago when 20 per cent said they would increase their staff levels and seven per cent expected to cut back.

Non-durable goods manufacturing, transportation and public service utilities, and wholesale/retail trade remain strong sectors.
