Unionized forestry workers at Dryden's Domtar mill and woodland operations have voted 70 per cent in favour of new five-year contracts.
The contracts for Locals 105-1, 105-3 and 324 are retroactive to 2009 and provide no wage increase for the first three years of the deal.
In a July 26 release from the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP), national representative Stephen Boon was pleased they fended off “numerous concessionary demands” and came away with “modest, but well-deserved pay raises as we enter the final two years of these five-year agreements.”
Workers get a one per cent wage increase this September and a 1.5 per cent raise in September 2013.
The contract provides improvements in daily per diem for truck drivers, daily meal allowance, pension plan contributions, apprenticeship program and a commitment to encourage greater First Nation participation in future harvesting work.
