Wawa diamond hunters, Dianor Resources, is preparing to file mine closure plans for its Leadbetter project in northeastern Ontario.
The Val-d'Or-based junior miner is advancing toward bulk sampling of its flagship property in the Wawa area.
Filing a mine closure plan to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is part of the regulatory procedure when taking a bulk sample.
Meetings were held with officials of various levels of government in September followed by public consultation with Wawa residents in October. Consultations with First Nations are planned for the coming weeks.
The bulk sampling will excavate up to 50,000 tonnes of diamond-bearing rock from two underground ramps. In a Nov. 25 statement, the company will extract and process it on site to recover 12,000 to 20,000 carats of diamonds.
