Dianor Resources has gotten government approval to take a 50,000 tonne bulk sample from its Leadbetter Diamond project near Wawa.
The Val d'Or, Que. junior calls it an “important milestone” in advancing the project since they began exploration in April, 2005.
Diamonds, rubies and sapphires will be extracted from two underground ramps on the property, 12 kilometres northeast of Wawa. The company said, with positive results, it will lead to starting pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
The company has filed two rehabilitation and closure plans with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.
The company said it's a major regulatory requirement before commencing advanced exploration programs.
The bulk sampling is expected to take 18 months to complete once project facilities are constructed on the site.
Their attention now turns toward finalizing the project engineering, applying for more permits for surface facilities, and taking quotes for the supply of equipment and services.
A 2007 tonnage estimate for the 2.69 billion-year-old rock is in the range of 549 million to 583 million tonnes.
