The De Beers Canada Victor Mine's efforts in Northern Ontario are being recognized at the 2010 Ontario Business Achievement Awards, to be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Sept. 20.
Hosted by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the event will bestow one of two Desjardins Awards for Large Business to the site for its its environmental practices and its commitment to working with aboriginal communities.
The mine was nominated by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce in response to De Beers' “unwavering commitment to Timmins' business community and immeasurable contribution to the province of Ontario,” according to a release from the Northern chamber.
De Beers and the chamber have long-standing ties, working together for advocacy on a number of issues including environmental assessments, diamond royalties and the Far North Act.
