Thunder Bay's Confederation College is getting $4.2 million from the province for new labs to research renewable fuel technologies.
The Bio-Energy Learning and Research Centre will involve evaluating uses of wood waste that has no commercial value for clean energy uses.
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities said the project will create 25 jobs and reduce the college's carbon footprint by 1,364 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents.
In a June 23 statement, Confederation president Pat Lang, said the college “will be at the forefront of preparing a green collar workforce to support the development of new and sustainable energy,” by giving students, “the best possible applied education in green renewable technologies.”
