The Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines announced July 29
that Sudbury-based film festival, Cinéfest, is receiving funds to enhance
its Web site at www.cinefest.com.
Cinéfest is estimated to have a $2.4-million economic impact on the Sudbury
region. This year's festival will take place from Sept.15 to 21.
"Cinéfest has matured into a very successful national event and we are very
pleased with this assistance from the Ontario government," says executive
director Tammy Frick. "Thanks to this funding, the convenience and
marketing power of online information access will be enhanced and
contribute to the future success and growth of Cinéfest."
"Our government recognizes that local not-for-profit organizations play a
key role in enhancing quality of life in the North," says Minister of
Northern Development and Mines Jim Wilson. "Established as one of the more
important film festivals in Canada, Cinéfest makes a unique contribution to
the cultural wealth of the North and is in itself a very important northern
tourist attraction. That is why we are pleased to assist this popular
organization in enhancing the quality of life in the North."
