Government bailouts of automakers while snubbing the struggling forestry industry just doesn't wash with Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton.
In a May 14 release, he accused the McGuinty government of ignoring the financial restructuring of AbitibiBowater, where 4,000 jobs are at risk.
At the same time, Queen's Park is contributing $1.25 billion to restructure Chrysler to keep jobs in Windsor and Brampton.
Hampton said while the Ontario government is missing the boat, Quebec has advanced $100 million of debtor-in-possession financing to help with the AbitibiBowater restructuring efforts.
“The Quebec government will now be in a very powerful position when the decisions are made on which mills to close, which mills to sell, and which mills to keep,” said Hampton.
