Statistics from the Thunder Bay Port Authority show 2001 year-to-date cargo volumes are up by half a million tonnes from last year's volumes. By August of this year, about 4.5 million tonnes of cargo had passed through the port, compared to last year's figure of 4 million tonnes.
Tonnage is also up from last year, as is ship traffic, which has increased by about 10 per cent.
