The Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF) was recognized Sept. 10 for a century of advancing forest science and practices.

The Mattawa-based organization, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, was presented with a special award by the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers in recognition of CIF's founding in 1908. Both organizations were holding concurrent sessions in Frederiction, N. B.

"We are very proud of our 100-year history and the role that our membership continues to play in positively influencing Canadian forest policy and practice," said CIF past president Fred Pinto in a Sept. 18 statement.

The CIF is based out of the Canadian Ecology Centre, west of Mattawa.
