Cambrian College has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition to offer a full semester of new courses as part of its energy systems curriculum.

Cambrian College has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition to offer a full semester of new courses as part of its energy systems curriculum.

The course have been fully integrated into Cambrian's three-year Energy Systems Technology program offered as of September 2008. The courses involve installation and a residential design course.

"An industry which is growing as fast as geoexchange is growing here in Canada (and) requires a stream of well-trained graduates for the coming decade-plus of sustained rapid growth," said CGC president/CEO Denis Tanguay in a Sept. 29 statement.

Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard is excited about the growth of the alternative energy and green building industries internationally, and the opportunities for grads to become "leading edge specialists in the industry."

The school's Energy Systems Technology program prepares students for employment in the sustainable energy field, focusing on energy systems for residential and small commercial buildings. Students learn to harness energy such as geothermal heat and cover other energy efficient topics.
