The high price of short-notice air travel remains a concern for the local business community in Sault Ste. Marie.

During a recent meeting of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp., the issue surfaced again, despite assurances from a spokesperson for Air Canada that airfares have not increased.

The EDC is particularly concerned for business people who are forced to book tickets at the last minute for unexpected meetings in Toronto and can pay as much as $800 for a return ticket.

Small business owners are hit harder by the ticket price than bigger businesses are, a city official says.

A similar discussion about airfares was to take place between Air Canada officials and the North Bay Economic Development Corp.
