Businesses in Fort Frances are reporting mixed numbers in terms of visitors from the United States.
While some say the number of American visitors has dropped dramatically since last summer, others believe the numbers are on par with 2000.
Statistics gathered at the Fort Frances port of entry support observations of a decline; those numbers show the number of American visitors crossing into the region is down by about seven per cent since April.
Officials with Canada Customs say the drop may be due to rising gas prices or the faltering American economy.
