Thunder Bay International Airport will be dropping the customer departure fee in October. The Airport Improvement Fee (AIF), introduced in 1998, requires passengers pay $10 before boarding a departing flight. The airport was able to drop the fee due to AIF revenues being higher than anticipated, says an official with the airport.

They have also been successful in leasing airport land to generate additional revenues.

This is the first airport in Canada to drop the customer departure fee.
