Montreal wind farm developer, RES Canada, has selected the Township of Dorion in northwestern Ontario as the new site of a $250 million wind farm.

It is one of two projects for Ontario, the company said in a Jan. 23 release.
Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada) is building a 99 megawatt farm in the township and the adjacent unorganized territory of Spruce Current.

It stands to provide a mini-economic stimulus for the area. The company said the project will create an estimated 300 construction jobs and eight direct operational jobs once it's completed.

To be known as the Greenwich Wind Farm, the developer plans to spent $25 million in the region for materials and labour, and about $8 million annually on an operational basis. The township of 379, located 70 kilometres east of Thunder Bay, will receive $278,000 in taxes each year.

The company also announced a second $250 million project for southwestern Ontario in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
