Despite consistently landing in the top 10 on the Canadian Automobile Association's annual Worst Road list, the City of Greater Sudbury has a small wish list unveiled by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
A bus maintenance and storage garage is the only item listed for Sudbury on the FCM's "shovel ready" list of municipal infrastructure projects from cities across Canada. The public transit project's price tag is $26.1 million and is listed as creating 299 jobs.
Sudbury is the only Northern Ontario city mentioned in the FCM's list of more than 1,000 municipal infrastructure projects. The list was released in advance of the federal budget in late February.
FCM president Jean Perrault said these projects would be ready to go this spring if federal funding is made available.
"We can see from this list that the federal government can invest in projects that will not only create jobs now but boost Canada's competitiveness, improve our environment and enhance our quality of life for generations to come," said Perrault in a Jan. 14 statement.
