Ben Bernanke recession's end

In a rare television interview American Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the recession will "probably" end this year if the government succeeds in bolstering the banking system.

 In a rare television interview American Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the recession will "probably" end this year if the government succeeds in bolstering the banking system.
Bernanke seemed to express a bit more optimism that this could be done in a CBS interview on “60 Minutes.”
However, Bernanke stressed that it hinges on getting banks to lend more freely again and obtaining stability in the financial districts.
A growing number of economists think the jobless rate will hit 10 percent by the end of this year.
Institutions that have been thrown lifelines include American International Group Inc., Citigroup Inc., Bank of America Corp., mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and others.
