Bearskin Airlines is expanding its service to include Montreal and is introducing a new aircraft to the fleet.

On May 1, Bearskin will commence service between Waterloo International Airport and Montreal Trudeau International Airport.

In a March 22 statement, the Thunder Bay air carrier five round trip flights will be offered each business day. Weekend service will also be available.

The company is also introducing a Saab 340 aircraft for service between Winnipeg, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.

The 34-seat aircraft will be used on routes where “demand has grown to warrant an increase in capacity,” said the company in a statement. A second Saab will be introduced by fall.

“We're excited to be moving into the next chapter for Bearskin Airlines,” said Bearskin president Harvey Friesen in a statement. “The Saab 340 offers enhanced comfort for many loyal customers who have supported our (northwestern) Ontario company since 1963.”

Bearskin is owned by Exchange Income Corporation (EIC) of Winnipeg. The acquisition, first announced last September, became official Jan. 1. Besides Bearskin, EIC also owns Perimeter Aviation, Keewatin Air and Calm Air.
