After years of effort, Apollo Gold has officially begun commercial production at its Black Fox open pit mine 64 kilometres east of Timmins.
The company saw its first gold pour in the last week of May 2009, with 3,000 ounces of gold.
The Black Fox open pit mine is currently mining waste and ore at a rate of nearly 14,000 tonnes per day.
During the first week of May, the Black Fox mill achieved 800 tonnes per day of throughput, a number which increased to 1,400 tonnes per day in the second week and 1,500 tonnes per day the remainder of the month. The mill is scheduled to continue operating steadily at 1,500 tonnes per day throughout June.
The new crushing circuit will be completed and delivered to Apollo by early July. Once commissioned, it will allow the mill to process 1,800 tonnes per day by late September 2009.
