Don Paterson, TBay Tel's chairman of the board resigned July 28, only six months after the departure of president and CEO Peter Diedrich.

In Thunder Bay news reports, Paterson refused to elaborate on the reasons for giving up his seat. Board vice-chair Michael Power steps in as acting chair of the arm's length city utility.

Earlier this year, the utility caused controversy across northwestern Ontario for a hostile takeover attempt of Kenora's telephone service. The organization was then accused by competitor Shaw Cable of attempting to block local cable and internet service through a Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ruling. Diedrich departed the scene soon after.

TBay Tel provides commercial and residential service to 150,000 customers and generated $120 million in gross revenues.
