Staff have begun to move into the new Biosciences and Technology Convergence Centre at Algoma University.

Dr. Pedro Antunes, chair of the Invasive Species Research Institute, is the first occupant to move into the building, while the Health Informatics Institute and the Community Geomatics Centre will follow later in July.

Construction is ongoing at the $16-million building, which broke ground in 2009. When complete, it will house teaching and faculty research labs, along with established enterprises like the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and Algoma Games for Health.

Fundraising for equipment for the centre is currently underway as part of the Essential Elements Campaign, which aims to raise $6 million for science and research facilities at the centre, fine arts and music education, and scholarship and bursary endowments for students.

An official opening for the centre is scheduled to take place this fall.
