A $11.6-million project AbitibiBowater is undertaking in the Thunder Bay area recently received a shot in the arm from the provincial government in the form of a $1.16-million grant.

The funding, provided through the Forest Sector Prosperity Fund, will help the company increase the efficiency of its kraft pulping process. It will also reduce the energy demand for steam production.

This increased efficiency will assist the company in securing nearly 350 jobs at the pulp and paper complex.

"Our Thunder Bay pulp and paper facility continues on its journey towards improved competitiveness as a result of this investment," said Doug Murray, general manager of Thunder Bay Operations for Abitibi-Bowater in a release.
