A mighty wind blows at Marathon

Brookfield Power is pressing ahead with plans to build a 100-megawatt wind farm on the north shore of Lake Superior at Marathon.

Brookfield Power is pressing ahead with plans to build a 100-megawatt wind farm on the north shore of Lake Superior at Marathon.

The green energy generator says the environmental assessment of its Coldwell Wind Energy Project is complete and 60 turbines of 1.5 megawatts each will be erected on a hilltop near Neys Provincial Park. Construction is scheduled to be start in 2010 and will create 10 permanent maintenance positions.

Brookfield also operates a 189-megawatt wind farm on Lake Superior, west of Sault Ste. Marie, along with hydroelectric dams north of the city.
