Brian Stevenson was officially installed as the sixth president and vice-chancellor of Lakehead University at a special ceremony in Thunder Bay, Nov. 5.
Since taking the helm of Lakehead last August, Stevenson has talked about taking the university's research-intensive focus to new levels. It's among his priorities for a three-year strategic plan involving faculty and researchers in developing research initiatives that partner with communities, particularly Aboriginal ones.
In his speech, Stevenson touched on the importance of opening up global opportunities for faculty, students and staff.
Stevenson took office in August, signing on for a five-year term. He has met with various representatives and groups including area businesses to assess opportunities for Lakehead to play a more active role in strengthening the local economy.
