Essar Steel Algoma and the Algoma
Central Railway are amongst the businesses being recognized by city
council as part of Sault Ste. Marie’s centennial celebration.
Ten businesses that have been in
existence for 100 years or more are being acknowledged by the City of
Sault Ste. Marie. The city is celebrating its 100th anniversary this
year.
Other businesses in industry being
recognized include Great Lakes Power, established in 1889; Shaw
Milling Ltd., established in 1902; and Thayer Lumber Company Inc.,
established in 1904.
In addition, the Algonquin Hotel,
established in 1888; Dawson & Keenan Insurance, established in
1892;
Wishart Law Firm LLP, established in
1900; The Sault Star, established in 1902; and Cliffe Printing Inc.,
established in 1902 are also being acknowledged.
“These businesses represent the
founding industries of our community, along with the entrepreneurial
spirit of small and medium-sized businesses, a true representation of
today’s thriving business community,” Sault Mayor Debbie Amaroso
said in a news release.
The businesses received certificates of
recognition during the 123rd annual Chamber of Commerce Awards, held
Oct. 18.
