The families of two women who were killed when a mall
roof collapsed in Elliot Lake in June have launched a pair of lawsuits seeking
$11.25 million in damages.
Lucie Aylwin, 37, and Dolores Perizzolo, 74, died when
part of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall collapsed on June 23. The lawsuit
launched by their families names the City of Elliot Lake, the Ontario Ministry
of Labour, property owner Robert Nazarian, and engineering firm M.R. Wright and
Associates.
The lawsuit claims negligence led to the structure’s
collapse, killing the two women.
A public inquiry into the roof collapse is also underway,
in addition to an investigation by the Ministry of Labour and a $30-million
class-action lawsuit taken out by the families affected by the roof collapse.
