The
Algoma Fall Festival, based in Sault Ste. Marie, has received $50,000 to help
boost tourism in the region.
The
festival, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is a celebration
of the arts that takes place Oct. to Nov. 3.
“The
province is continuing to support local festivals and events because we recognize the economic importance of investing in
the tourism industry in Sault Ste. Marie,” Sault MPP David Orazietti said in a
news release.
“Our tourism strategy in
northern Ontario is helping local residents enjoy accessible and affordable
activities, while also attracting more out-of-town and out-of-province visitors
who provide a financial boost to a wide range of local businesses.”
According
to the province, festivals and events generate more than 22,000 jobs in Ontario
annually, while tourism generates more than $23
billion and supports over 300,000 jobs.
