The press conference was held on Tuesday March 10, 2009 at City Hall with Mayor John Rowswell, Patricia Mills, Publisher of Northern Ontario Business and NOBA Platinum Sponsor OLG - Jim Cronin to announce that the City of Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario Business will be hosting the 23rd Northern Ontario Business Awards.

Nominations are open in the following categories: Company of the Year (1-15), Company of the Year (16-50), Company of the Year (51+), Entrepreneur of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Entrepreneurial Company of the Year, First Nations Business Award of Excellence, Innovation and Judge's Choice and Union Gas Essay Scholarship. NOBA has awarded 190 Northern Ontario companies and individuals with a Northern Ontario Business Award for their excellence in business and entrepreneurship who have contributed to the economic wealth of Northern Ontario as well as employing local citizens throughout the years. The Awards program rotates every year among the five major cities across Northern Ontario and was last held in the Sault in 2004.
