MULTI-UNIT HOUSING OPTIONS TO BE DEVELOPED IN GREATER SUDBURY
Two multi-unit housing options will be developed in the City of Greater
Sudbury, bringing more than 200 affordable condominiums to the
community. The units will be built using the Options for Homes concept,
which provides quality home ownership options at cost-effective prices.
“These developments will help to address our community’s need for
housing that is affordable to low and middle-income residents,” said
Mayor John Rodriguez. “With our high housing prices, many people who
would like to buy their first home are unable to do so. This will
provide an excellent opportunity for many residents to become first-time
homeowners.”
The sites to be developed include 5 acres located in Chelmsford near
the Place Bonaventure Mall, which will house 116 condominium units, and
162 MacKenzie Street in Sudbury, where a 92 condominium complex is
proposed for development. The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation
(GSDC) worked to bring the Options for Homes concept to Greater Sudbury
to address the shortage of affordable housing in the community.
“After researching various models for multi-residential and
cost-effective housing, Board members discovered the Options for Homes
concept and determined that it was ideal for the community,” said GSDC
Chair Guy Labine. “We are very pleased to be introducing this model to
Greater Sudbury and feel it will have many benefits for the community as
a whole.”
Options for Homes is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing
quality housing at the lowest possible price with the goal of bringing
home ownership within the reach of families with gross annual incomes as
low as $40,000. Local entrepreneur Tom Corbett is the Development
Consultant for Options for Homes – Greater Sudbury and will work to
manage development of the projects.
