Laurentian University president, Dominic Giroux, is pleased to announce that former president of Vale Inco Ontario Operations, Fred Stanford, and Gemini Award-winning journalist and now head of Fraser Strategies, Conway Fraser, are joining Laurentian University as its first executives-in-residence.

Fred Stanford will play an instrumental role, working with faculty, university administrators, industry and government partners to position Laurentian University as the global leader in mining. “There is exciting momentum building at Laurentian. I could witness this as a member of the Board of Governors and as the parent of a child enrolled at Laurentian. I look forward to working with the great team at the university on this community building effort, that made it easy to say yes when I was approached,” explained Mr. Stanford, who has 28 years of experience in mining and operations. Among other roles, Stanford will help establish an international mining advisory  ommittee at Laurentian and provide strategic advice in the development of innovative undergraduate and graduate programs that will meet the emerging needs of the mining industry.

In his new role, Conway Fraser, the former producer of news and current affairs at CBC Northeastern Ontario Radio, will support Laurentian’s efforts to increase its recognition in the national media, as well as its outreach in the rest of northeastern Ontario and in Simcoe-Muskoka. “I am a proud Laurentian alumnus in political science. Laurentian’s faculty had a very positive influence on my career in broadcast journalism and my kids will soon enroll at Laurentian. I have been trained to find and tell a good story, and Laurentian University is a great story to be told across the province and the country,” says Mr. Fraser.

“Laurentian’s new Executive-in-Residence Program will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to learn from accomplished leaders in their respective fields. These part-time rotating assignments are one more way to keep us on the cutting edge of teaching and research. They will help Laurentian in terms of gaining national recognition, making it even more the university of choice, fostering student engagement and ensuring its responsiveness to the communities it serves,” added Laurentian University president Dominic Giroux.
