Former mayor Jim Gordon to initiative public consultation on ALC crisis

At the request of Mayor John Rodriguez, former Mayor Jim Gordon, Chair
of the City’s Advisory Panel on Health Cluster Development, met today
with major stakeholders from the healthcare community to review the
Alternate Level of Care crisis.

“Our meeting today was a productive step,” said Mr. Gordon.
“There was a great deal of constructive discussion around the
table, along with general consensus that a collaborative framework of
action be developed to provide a true community response to the
healthcare crisis affecting our residents. We will work closely with the
physicians’ task force at Sudbury Regional Hospital to ensure a
cooperative and comprehensive approach is taken in response to the
situation.”

As a result of today’s meeting, two public consultation sessions will
be held in the near future. Mr. Gordon will make a report to Council on
December 10.

“It is vital that we hear from the community to ensure that the steps
we take are informed and appropriate,” said Councillor Ted Callaghan,
who is Chair of the Mayor and Council’s Roundtable on Seniors’
Issues. “Everyone at the table today recognized that there is a crisis
that is affecting our citizens, and our community is firmly committed to
providing both a short- and a longer-term response.”

The meeting was also attended by Mayor Rodriguez, representatives from
institutions involved in the local health sector, and representatives
from the City of Greater Sudbury.
