A First Rate Training Partnership in the Mining Sector

Sudbury – Collège Boréal and MacLean Engineering today announced a partnership aimed at developing a programme of continuing education and training mostly geared to the needs of mining engineers. Denis Hubert, President of Collège Boréal, and Allan Gibson, Senior Vice-President, Product Support at MacLean Engineering, were joined by representatives from the mining industry such as SAMSSA (Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Service Association).

This two-week programme, unique to Northern Ontario, is aimed at providing mining engineers, and people in supervisory capacities, with the safety aspects and expectations of vehicles used extensively in underground conditions: scooptram, blockholer, boom truck, scissor bolter and scissor truck. The training received during this program will provide a firm knowledge base that can be readily put to use in supervising those individuals who operate these various types of equipment. This program is not only appropriate for highly qualified staff; it also satisfies part of the apprenticeship standards set out by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in the Supervisory Common Core Program for Underground Hard Rock Mines.

“Thanks to this new offering, Collège Boréal is able to clearly meet the needs expressed by the mining industry” states Denis Hubert, President of Collège Boréal. “By collaborating with a partner such as MacLean Engineering, Collège Boréal reinforces its role as a trainer of choice for the mining industry, while at the same time creating new opportunities for students in its mining programs anxious to add to their college learning”.

Allan Gibson, Senior Vice-President, Product Support at MacLean Engineering emphasizes the importance of such an agreement: “Collège Boréal enjoys a solid reputation in the area of Mining Education and Training. This partnership enables us to expand our products and services through joint certification which in turn offers our clients the assurance of comprehensive and unique preparation provided by two respected experts in the mining field.”
