A search is on for a new chief administrative officer (CAO) in the City of Timmins.

Joe Torlone, who has held the positon for 14 years, has announced his retirement. He has served the city, in various capacities, for 37 years.

“In his position as CAO, Joe has proven to be a great leader and ambassador for the City of Timmins, and has been a diligent promoter of our city,” Mayor Steve Black said in an announcement to staff.

“Because of his hard work and dedication to this municipality, Joe has built a strong reputation and is well respected by his municipal peers across Ontario, and by his colleagues at all levels of government. His professionalism, foresight, integrity and dedication to making the City of Timmins the best that it could be has been second to none, and has been felt throughout Ontario.”

Torlone will stay on until Jan. 27, 2017, giving council time to find his replacement.

In a release, the city said the search will take four months. A preliminary hiring committee, comprised of Black and four councillors, has already been established to short-list possible candidates.

Successful candidates will then proceed to the interview process. Rock Foy, the city’s director of human resources, will provide assistance to council on administrative aspects throughout the hiring process.
