Sudbury firm GDB Constructeurs has won a $2.1-million contract to rehabilitate a highway river crossing south of Hearst.

The province is providing the funding to rehabilitate the Obijou River crossing on Highway 583, which runs south of Hearst. Work will begin this spring and is expected to be completed in fall 2016.

“Hearst is a regional service centre, so having a project like this is very positive for the residents and businesses in our area that travel Highway 583,” Hearst Mayor Roger Sigouin said in a release.

“I support Ontario’s commitment to ensuring safe and efficient travel on our northern highways.”
