Timmins hosts first feature film

The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and Tourism Timmins announced the filming of Two Lovers and A Bear as the first feature film being shot in Timmins.

The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and Tourism Timmins announced the filming of Two Lovers and A Bear as the first feature film being shot in Timmins.

Written and directed by Kim Nguyen, the film is being co-produced by Max Films and Scythia Films.

“The film industry is an important economic generator and one that will help us to diversify our economy,” said Mayor Steve Black. “The economic impact will be substantial when you consider the number of people coming here for an extended period of time.  Add to this the local purchase of materials and labour, and you get the picture, no pun intended. I commend the TEDC for their tenacious pursuit of film related economic opportunities and hope to see more of the same in the future.”

During the location scouting, the city said the business community and residents were very helpful, receptive and extremely warm during the entire process.

“The board of directors of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation commends its staff for helping position Timmins in the best possible light for the film’s advance team and its competitive site selection process,” said economic development chairman Fred Gibbons in a statement. “With the film scheduled for production in late March it will add value to subsequent efforts of Tourism Timmins to promote winter tourism in the city.”
