A big rural funding spread

The Ontario government is providing $228,550 through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program to support a number of community projects in northeastern Ontario.

The Ontario government is providing $228,550 through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program to support a number of community projects in northeastern Ontario.

No funding breakdown was provided by the province, but the projects include:

- developing a branding strategy for Chapleau to increase tourism and other economic opportunities,

- support for the Worth the Commute, Worth the Investment business fair in Powassan to help attract new residents and investors,

- support for the East Ferris business development project in Corbeil to lay the groundwork for an entrepreneurial community,

- support to M'Chigeeng on Manitoulin Island to help the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation build its brand as a public heritage organization,

- developing a marketing strategy in Cochrane focused on attracting skilled workers,

- support for an economic development project in Moose Factory.

Meanwhile in the northwest, Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle announced $21,800 in RED funding for Nipigon to work with the local chamber to create a shop-local coupon booklet. Three jobs will be created.
