Falconer flies high with provincial funding

Five Thunder Bay area businesses received a total of $485,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) to purchase new equipment or expand their shops.

Five Thunder Bay area businesses received a total of $485,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) to purchase new equipment or expand their shops.

The talons of Skyline Falconry grabbed $11,820 for its bird control and management services with the use of trained falconry birds. The company performs educational demonstrations for colleges and universities and wedding ring delivery service with the use of a trained snowy owl.

Bringing the heat is Murillo Millworks after receiving $175,000 from NOHFC by new equipment and for a mill expansion.

A new heat treatment chamber is being installed to heat treat wood packaging products such as pallets and creates. Ten full-time jobs will be created.

Thunder Bay Hydraulics is well lubricated after receiving $270,216 for construction of a 1,600-square-foot addition and to purchase equipment for the machine and fabrication shop. The company is adopting LEAN manufacturing processes which will boost its capacity to take on larger projects and meet customer demand for increased custom fabrication. Eight new jobs will be filled.

Creativity should flow at Andrea’s Art with $15,504 to buy office and art equipment, storage containers, furniture, aluminum easels, software, lighting, framing equipment, as well as advertising and website development.  Andrea’s Art offers customized portraits, wall murals, art-themed party events, and framing.

The money is all sewn up for As You Sew . . . Longarm Quilting which received $12,250 to establish a home-based business offering longarm quilting services.  This stitch is applied to finished quilt tops through the use of an industrial-sized machine.
