Thunder Bay International Airports Authority is commemorating the 15th anniversary of WestJet’s arrival in the city.

In March 1999, Thunder Bay became the first airport in Ontario serviced by WestJet offering daily service to Calgary. Since then, service has extended to Eastern Canada, U.S. and international destinations.

“Over the past fifteen years, WestJet Airlines has been an integral part of the continued growth of Thunder Bay International Airport,” said airport president and CEO Scott McFadden.

WestJet has now introduced its new Encore service to the Thunder Bay market, with service starting in June.

"Thunder Bay International Airports Authority has been a popular destination for WestJet, and now WestJet Encore, linking Eastern and Western Canada for the past 15 years," said WestJet Encore president Ferio Pugliese.

“The people of Thunder Bay and the surrounding communities have provided WestJet with tremendous support, and proven that air service is important to them.”
